The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has officially made it possible for all its members to easily renew their NMCN License and the good thing about this is that the is now a guide on how to renew the license without having to pay someone to do it for you or guide you on how to renew the license.

NMCN License Renewal

According to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, The council license is known to be endorsed and enforced by section 5 of Amended Decree 54 of 1988, which states that “No Nurse shall be allowed to practice or continue to practice in any year unless such a Nurse has paid Licensing fees as prescribed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.”

According to the Council, The current renewal charge is Thirteen thousand one hundred and twenty-five naira (N10, 500) only for three years, with a penalty of Six thousand five hundred and sixty-two naira (N5, 500) for each year of default. These fees are subject to periodic review.

Requirements for Renewal of License

We have several requirements for the renewal of the license and they include:

  • You need to have a completed Licensing Form or you must have initiated an online application for license renewal via www.license.nmcn.gov.ng
  • You need to possess at least two recent identical colored passport photographs with white backgrounds.
  • Your License must have expired before seeking to renew it.
  • As a member seeking to renew his or her license, you need to have photocopies of certificates of registration
  • You must possess a photocopy of the certificate of attendance for the mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP)
  • You must also possess original evidence of payment of N10,500 for renewal and a penalty of N5,250 for each year of default on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s platform through REMITA

 

Requirements for Issuance of License

Here are the requirements needed when issuing our license, they include,

  • You need to have an identification letter from the school of training
  • You need to have completed the licensing form
  • You need to possess photocopies of certificates of previous registrations as applicable
  • You need to possess two recent identical coloured passport photographs with a white background
  • You also need to possess original evidence of payment of N10,500 on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria platform through Remita.

 

Licensing/Updating and Verification Division

It is important to note that the Licensing/Updating Division of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria is responsible for the issuance and updating of practicing licenses to all categories of registered nurses within and outside the country.

It is also known that the division is responsible for treating all correspondences and keeping statistics of all processed and dispatched licenses.

According to the NMCN, the Division has been in existence since 1987 and its activities are supported and enforced by section 5 of the amended decree 54 of 1988 which stipulates that “no nurse shall be allowed to practice or continue to practice in any year except such a nurse has paid the Licencing fee as prescribed by the Council”.

 

Function of the Licensing/Updating Division

The Licensing and Updating division has different responsibilities which include:

  • They are responsible for Updating and issuance of practicing licenses to all cadres of Registered Nurses in Nigeria.
  • They are responsible for the Verification/Authentication of certificates to various boards/organizations within and outside the Country.
  • They are responsible for the Change of name for married females in the Council’s records.
  • They are responsible for treating all correspondences and keeping statistics of all processed and dispatched licenses.
  • They are responsible for Liaising with Foreign Nursing Boards through correspondence on issues relating to verification of registration with the Council.

 

Requirements for the Verification of Certificates of Registration

Here are some of the requirements for the verification of the certificate, they include:

  • Application stating purpose and destination of verification.
  • Completed verification form.
  • Photocopy of current license.
  • Photocopies of certificates of registration.
  • Photocopy of birth certificate.
  • Original evidence of payment of N8,750 per certificate of registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s platform through REMITA (TSA).

 

Change of Name in the Council’s Record

Here are the requirements for the change of name in the council’s record. They include:

  • It is important to note the change of name is allowed for married women only and this applies to change in surname only.
  • Do well to note that the addition or change of other names (first or middle names) is not acceptable.
  • Change of names for males is not acceptable
  • Only three consistent names in full will be acceptable for all Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria records.

 

Requirements for Authentication of Certificates

Here are the requirements for the authentication of certificates, they include:

  • Two (2) copies of each of the requirements for verification.
  • Original evidence of payment of N8,750 on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s platform through REMITA (TSA).

NOTE: It is important to note that the amount covers the number of certificates.
