About the DSS

The DSS is a short word used to denote the Department of the State Service. This department was formerly known as the State Security Service. The establishment is a special branch of the Nigerian Police Force.

This has constitutional backing as it is being constituted for in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended. Their roles include preventing and detecting if the crime disrupts the Internal security of the country, also it is concerned with preserving and protecting all classified matters that are not military related.

Furthermore, the body is in charge of preventing economic crimes, threats, intergroup conflict, disobedience of law and order etc.

Finally, they serve as an advisory body to the government on matters that concerns the security of the special body and any other function that may be assigned to them as regards security and protection.
